Red Cross Swimming Instruction Levels
PRE-SCHOOL Age 3 - Water adjustment and introduction to bobbing & floating.
TODDLERS Age 4 and older - Water adjustment and introduction to Level I Skills Level I Skills include submerging face, blowing bubbles, experiencing buoyancy, supported front and back float and kick, learn basic water safety rules
Level II Skills include holding breath, retrieving objects, prone and supine float and glide, rhythmic breathing, front and back crawl and flutter kick, combined strokes using kick and arm action
Level III Skills include retrieve objects, jump in and bob in deep water, prone and supine glide with push off, coordinate front/back crawl with breathing, water safety techniques
Level IV Skills include deep-water bobbing, rotary breathing, diving from platform, sculling on back, front and back crawl (25 yd.), water safety techniques
Level V Skills include alternate breathing, stride jump entry, diving progression, breaststroke and sidestroke (10 yd.), dolphin kick, open turns, diving board safety
Level VI Skills include diving board techniques, expanded strength and stamina in various strokes, turns, tread water (2 min.), expanded safety techniques
