SUNSET POINT SCENIC OVERLOOK
The property, presently known as Sunset Point Park, was originally owned by John Busch, who in the late 1920's, offered the property to Kimberly-Clark in exchange for hiring his sons at the Kimberly mill.
In the late 1940s, the leaders of Kimberly-Clark, with a vision to share its treasure with the community, donated the property to the Village of Kimberly for the development of a community park. It was appropriately named "Sunset Point Park" and was maintained and steadily enhanced by village officials for the enjoyment of its citizens.
However, over the years, the heavy leaf cover of the trees and undergrowth, prevented park visitors from catching even a glimpse of the brilliant slash of light cast at sunset over the Fox River and its tiny island located a few feet off the steep banks of the park.
A photo displayed on a 1980's Outagamie County brochure, inspired Marie Ruys' vision and proposal to construct the Sunset Point Park Scenic Overlook for better viewing for all Fox Valley citizens and visitors of this magnificent sight.
